Welcome to EzHTML. This isn't just another HTML tutorial site; this one is geared towards kids, complete beginners, teenagers and adults alike, I (hopefully) have explained everything slowly and in detail so as you can learn it with ease. Don't be put off if some parts go back to basics. This site was tested with children (none were harmed in doing so). On the following pages I will show you how to make web pages using written HTML. After following these pages you'll be able to make, maintain and modify your own web pages. This site covers all of the basics and a some advanced features, from adding graphics, making lists, making tabled layout sites etc I have made this as easy as possible to follow with plenty of examples but like anything in life it takes practice. The more you do the better you get. So I have included a common errors, summary and exercises (and optional quiz) section at the bottom of most pages to help you. If you have any trouble, don't understand something or even to comment on something please contact me after you have looked in the questions section. Anyone can make a web site - and they do.
My aim here apart from teaching you HTML is to teach you how to use it in a productive universal way, a way that will invite viewers to come back, maybe tell a friend about. I can't promise you visitors to your site but I can help you keep them there with a user friendly site. The best way to learn is by doing it, you may copy and paste the samples as you go but would be more benefit if you type them out yourself. You do actually learn by typing it out. Watch out for typos. HTML is NOT a programmer language, HTML stands for HyperText Markup Language, which is a text based language. So all you need is a text-based editor like Notepad, etc. or my personal choice Editpad, a top of the line replacement for the Windows editor for the fee of a postcard. You should also really have a version of each of the main three browsers, (not compulsory) Firefox(Mozilla), Opera and Internet Explorer (All are free) so you can test your pages as you go. What I am about to teach you here is unbiased, meaning it will work on most browsers and versions and I'll work towards teaching you the right way, making it fit ANY browser size and ANY browser type. Testing on different browsers should become a habit. When you make a web page, it is yours, but we make it for other people, so make your site enjoyable by following a few simple rules so everyone will enjoy your site and maybe even return and/or spread the word about your great site. There is nothing worse than going to a site, say for a weather update and waiting 5 - 10 minutes while a Java applet of your family dog reflecting in the lake loads. See the "Bad HTML" page for more examples. The hardest part is the topic. Remember we make web pages for other people to see, not ourselves, if you want a web site just for yourself, save us all some bandwidth and use a photo album. I hope your visit here at EZHTML is a long and productive one. :)
Don't be put off if we don't jump into all the neat stuff straight off, like anything built there is a foundation, without this, all will fall apart. The behind the scene parts are most important. I should point out you don't need to be connected to the internet to make a web page, all is done off line and uploaded to your site when you have finished. All the exercises given are done off line (except checking your external links). These pages are printable so if you wish to view them off line you may. However these pages are copyrighted and may not be included on any other site, CD or included in any package. This site is to remain FREE for anyone to use as long as no money or profit of any kind is gained from it. All text, graphics and layouts are copyright 2004 to me (Busy) |
